Something in the air tonight
Our aim all along has been to shun motorways and get as close as possible to fault lines themselves. Little did we expect, however, to be able to bed down in the crater of a volcano, our mats gently warmed by the earth below, inhaling air that has been proven by a Nobel prize winner to have natural viagra-like effects on the body! Yes, before anyone asks, we all remained in our own tents.
The Solfatara volcano in Pozzuoli, just outside Naples is under constant surveillance by scientists, yet there is a campsite right in the middle of the crater. Take a walk to the showers and the soles of your shoes nearly melt. Stumble around in the dark and you wouldn’t want to get lost.
The campsite, and infact the volcano itself has been in the same family since 1868. Only in Italy would a family be able to actually own a volcano and run a fully operational campsite in the midde of it.
